Jacket

This is the top on V9193 done from Marcy's blog. I followed the directions from her blog to make the top into a jacket. I also used her fabrics that she suggested. So it has a knit on the top and a linen on the bottom. I added extra width through the sleeves so that I could wear it over another top. I had gotten some trim in Paris which worked well to add some detail to the jacket. I found some grosgrain ribbon which worked well to run down the front for the buttons.
It has the pocket on one side which I think adds some interest. It made up as a nice light weight jacket.
You can see that the linen does wrinkle, but it doesn't bother me. Like how this jacket turned out. It was fun to see if I could follow Marcy's directions and convert the top to a jacket.

Another Trip on the Horizon

At the end of July it will be off to Minnesota to see my family for a couple of weeks. I am thinking of the humidity, rain and mosquitoes. Two of my nephews are getting married and my high school reunion will keep me busy. I used Marcy's pattern to make a couple light weight jackets.
These will make nice covers and not too hot.

I like the little ruffle at the center back.

Back from Workshops

I am back from Mary Tilton and Diane Erickson's retreat in Santa Barbara. This is me with all the things I thought I should take with. Never have gone before so I was not sure what to take and I wanted to be sure to be prepared. It is a good thing that I had the car to myself, so I could fill it.
These are some of the women working on their projects. The women in the blue shirt on the right was my roommate. We had a nice time together.
This was a very inspirational retreat. The women were very willing to share and it was very interesting to be surrounded with such talented wearable artists. We wore something different each day that we had made. When I finish my project I will put a picture on the blog.

This retreat was over on Thursday and then on Friday I went up to Atascadero and attended a workshop for two days with Rosemary Eichorn. She is such a good teacher and explains things so well. I worked on a vest in her collage method. I will put it on the blog when I get it done.

I am pretty tried out, but very happy to have had so many new ideas come my way. It will take me a long time to use them all up.

Marcy Tilton and Diane Erickson's Workshop

I very excited as I will be attending the DOL workshop with Marcy Tilton and Diane Erickson in Santa Barbara on January 31st for four days. The makings for this bracelet were sent to me the other day. These were all pieces and you were suppose to invent/reinvent(the name of the workshop). It will be fun to see what the other attendees did with their piece of fabric.

Marcy Tilton's Pattern

This is one of Marcy Tilton's newest patterns. I really like it. I have had so much fun working with the lycra knits. This pattern is perfect for that type of fabric.
I folded out the side and made a t-shirt from the pattern. I bought this fabric in Sweden and didn't have the jacket with me that I wanted to match it too.
It matched perfectly. Just how many times can you do that?
This is a piece of fabric I bought from Marcy and I just love it. It is so soft. Great for travel.
This one was already done so it looked like I dyed it and even had sparkles on it.
Still thinking up some other things to do with this pattern. Just cut out another shirt. Will show you that one when I get it done.

More on Marcy Tilton

These are some more shirts that I screened at Marcy's workshop. This is the back.
This is the front.
This a back.
This is the front.
I was so inspired that the creative wheels haven't stopped. I worked on this shirt tonight and put on the sleeves and thinking of what to do next. I was off to the fabric store today looking at all of her patterns and looking at fabric that was like what she used in her samples. She taught me a better understanding of working with knits. Knits have been around for a long time. They keep improving them. The addition of lycra really adds a new dimension. Marcy made it look so easy. Of course, there is experience behind those easy steps.
