Creating a jacket

I am creating a new jacket with several of my hand-dyed fabrics and two commercial fabrics. I will be speaking at our American Sewing Guild tomorrow night and put this jacket together part way so I could show how to put together a jacket with a muslin base. I also will be showing some of my garments with wearable art techniques.

Shibori

I dyed this scarf with brown colorhue dye. Then used a kitchen rubber mat that you use in a sink and pulled the scarf through the holes. I tyed the silk that I had brought through the holes. The scarf was dyed black and each tyed piece I painted with a dark orange.
This is a sample for my shibori class that I will teach on May 7th.

Purse Making Again

I think purses are my weakness(except maybe hats). I can only go so long and then I have to make a purse. This one was one of Marcy Tilton's patterns that I had for a while and was happy to get around to try out. It is 8173. She tells you how to paint fusible web with metallic paints and after it dries you iron it on the fabric. I also put tulle over each piece before I sewed around them.
The fabric is some cotton sateen dyed with procion dye red wine. The handle and trim is kimono silk. I also used a stencil on silk organza for some of the images. Also added a few words as well.
Back.
