We are starting our clean out of my Dad's house. A lot of memories. We have the dumpster for 30 days, so we will have time to go through things.
This is the front of the house. My father had us build a ramp for my Mother and she died nine years ago. He didn't want it taken down because he might need it. He did need it two days before he died when the ambulance brought him home for the last time. We will be tearing that down now.Sunday, September 30, 2012

Back Yard
Looking around my Dad's back yard. This is a rock that Dad brought back from a camping trip and it looks like a face. This has been sitting on the back porch for years. I am working on how to get it home to put in my garden.
This is a part from a airplane that he brought home from Northwest Airlines that he worked for. My sister and I called them the bee hives and are very happy that their are two so we can each have one to put in our gardens.
This is on the railing of his porch. I wish I could figure out how to bring this one home. Another one of his treasures from a camping trip.
This is the back yard. When I father had the house built in 1965 there were no trees and he loved trees. They have grown and become crowded.
This the side of the yard that you view from the back porch. Just thought you would enjoy seeing how things looked.

Looking Out
Just wanted to share the view from the library. My father's house isn't setup with wifi, so every day I have to find some way to communicate with the computer world. This library has a whole side of the building with windows and there are these trees and a small body of water to look at.

Good News
Fall is beginning to start here in Minnesota and my being here, I will be able to share it with you. This is something that I miss living in California.
This is the first tree with it's leaves turning red. Then you notice as you look down the street there are some trees just beginning to turn yellow. I am seeing a little yellow here and there when I drive up and down the streets.

Looking Around Minnesota
Well it looks like I will be in Minnesota for awhile. There will be much to do to cleaning out my Dad's house. Since I don't have my sewing machine or dyes with me I will have to do some other things for enjoyment. This morning I took a walk around the neighborhood. Since I am a gardener and my father was too, that is what I was looking for.
This was in someones front yard. I hope no one picks it for them. This is the family who's farm was sold off to build the houses in the area in 1965. They still have this lot left and sell their vegetables. I got a wonderful cabbage for soup and tomatoes and squash.
You can't beat a Minnesota cabbage.
A couple nice gardens. I like the one in the front yard.

Shibori
I took a online classes with Shibori Girl and this is the process that I followed in making mandalas.
This is tyeing with dental floss.
This is another piece that I sewed a design in the fabric first.
These are the tyed mandalas.
On the very end I clapped some large washers.
Used some syringes to inject the dyes into the fabric.
These are the finished mandalas. It is interesting. I tyed all of them the same. The difference is how tight I tyed the dental floss.
These are the pieces which I sewed circles for design.
I had ripped a old vintage light weight linen kimono apart and these are the rest of the pieces dyed.
I am busy thinking through how to use this for a garment. I think the mandalas will be placed on the sleeves and the circles will go on each front and the rest will be the filler for a long light weight shirt. I ususally have to think about this for a while to get the vision of how the garment is going to look. I am thinking of pin tucking between the two lines of circles. Maybe a couple of rows. What do you think? What would you use this fabric for?
