Dyeing Clothes

My friend Nancy wanted me to dye these clothes for her granddaughter for Christmas. It was a fun project.
It will be fun to see how she looks in them.

Jacket and Pants

I have been working on a new jacket and pants. The pattern is one of Marcy Tiltons.
I began by getting out all of the things I had in my stash that would go with this lime green linen fabric. Also some fabric that I had dyed.
I cut out squares of my dyed fabric.
This is the pants with dyed fabric trim and embroidery stitching.
The jacket once it was completed. If you click on the pictures you will be able to see some of the detail.

Dyeing Fabric

I wanted to try some folding the fabric to see the effects.
This one was folded into fourths. The dyes were fire red and purple. Interesting how the fire red came out on the pink side. I would put more in next time.
This one was folded into triangles. The dyes were tangerine and fire red.
This one was swirled. The dyes are fire red and purple.

Fabric Dyeing and Batiking

I have been having fun dyeing with procion dyes the last couple of days. Since I don't have a table big enough and I didn't want to frame or hang the 3 yards of fabrics I was working with. I decided to lay heavy plastic out on the grass in the back yard with rocks on the corners. You can see that I had some expert help.

I dyed the fabrics a light color first and then batiked.

Then I laid them out again and dyed the fabric. I covered them with a second sheet of plastic and left them overnight.

As you can see the orange one is done from the recent article in the Quilting Arts Magazine using berry box, spools of thread and toilet paper rolls.

The purple dyed fabric I used a iron I had.

Dyeing Class

I am working on putting together a class for dyeing fabrics at my house. I will have a dyeing lab where people can come and use my dyes and then a instruction class. I am working on a flyer to take to my sewing class as there are some people interested there.
