This one was with a resist applied to the silk and then painted with dye and a sharpie pen.

Dress Pattern

 This is the new dress I made today. It is Marcy Tilton's new dress pattern. It sews up fairly easy.

 I dyed these two pieces of fabric.

This is a vintage clip on the pockets.

Another Vest

The pattern I used is from Purrfection, 1007 Kimono Jacket and Vest. I had seen it done up by Laura Murray. I like the way it turned out, so now I would like to make up another one from the pattern. Maybe a jacket this time. My husband's niece is turning 21 next month, so I made this for her.

I have been collecting old linen napkins from estate sells. I dyed three with procion dye, better black and imperial purple. There is one large one on the back and two in the front that were scalloped on the edge and had cut work on the corners. There is a piece of silk free motioned on under the zipper rose. The loop for the button is a tie that I saved from the old kimonos that I took apart.
I think linings should be interesting. This one has lime green commercial fabric on the back and hand dyed on the fronts. The collar band is painted and batiked.

Batiki

Back in August I went to a soy wax workshop and it has taken me this long to finish the pieces up that I started. The top one is sateen cotton with golden yellow and red wine. I used a half of a green pepper and a carved potato for the images. I really like the way this one turned out.

The next one still needs something yet. Avocado/Golden yellow under and then Forest Green on top.

This was a commercial lime green piece of fabric. Used a strawberry basket as one of the images. Then dyed it Imperial Purple.

Dyeing and Embossing Velvet

I put the wood stamps under the fabric with the plush side down on the wood stamp and sprayed it with starch and used a iron for about a minute being careful to watch for scorching. Do not move the iron back and forth or you may move the material and not get a clear design.

Then I waxed here and there with a brush(Batiki) and then dyed the fabric in Navy blue. Again let it set covered in plastic for 24 hours. The under colors show through in some places. These are the wood blocks that I used to emboss the velvet.


I have been working to complete this for a while. This is two yards of rayon/silk velvet stretched on a frame. I used several bright procion dye colors and let it set for 24 hours covered in plastic.

Fabric Dyeing and Batiking

I have been having fun dyeing with procion dyes the last couple of days. Since I don't have a table big enough and I didn't want to frame or hang the 3 yards of fabrics I was working with. I decided to lay heavy plastic out on the grass in the back yard with rocks on the corners. You can see that I had some expert help.

I dyed the fabrics a light color first and then batiked.

Then I laid them out again and dyed the fabric. I covered them with a second sheet of plastic and left them overnight.

As you can see the orange one is done from the recent article in the Quilting Arts Magazine using berry box, spools of thread and toilet paper rolls.

The purple dyed fabric I used a iron I had.
