Two More Scarves

This was done with charteuse and purple+navy blue acid dye. It was wrapped around a pvc pipe with string.

This one is turquiose and purple+navy blue acid dye. The scarf was folded until it was a small square and  two round wood pieces were put on either side of the square and held on with a clamp while it was dyed.

Silk Scarf

This silk scarf is done with my favorite procion dye color red wine. I stretched the scarf on a frame to dye it. Then I used black fabric screen printing ink with my screen for the leaves. I then laid the mesh from the bag that my lemons were in and took a a sponge with black setacolor to create a texture on the scarf.

Blue Gel Glue Resist

I have been experimenting with Elmer blue gel glue as resist. First I tried a piece of Kona cotton. I soaked the fabric in soda ash and then let it dry. I stretched it on a frame. I used the glue to outline my design. Let it dry and then painted with thicken procion dye. I let it dry for 24 hours and then soaked it in hot water and the glue came off. Then washed it in the machine with baby tears(it sets the dye) first with hot and then with cold.

Next I tried it on silk. I followed the same process except that I used thicken procion dye in the squares and then liquid procion dye for the back ground.

I see in the Quilting Arts Magazine which I got the new addition in the mail today, that there is a article on using the blue gel glue as well.

Internet Research

I have been spending a lot of time on the internet researching different subjects. Today I came upon a UK magazine that is very interesting. It is free, but asking for a $10 donation. It has tutorials and images for downloading. Those of you that do art quilts you might enjoy looking at this. http://www.art-e-zine.co.uk

Dyeing and Embossing Velvet

I put the wood stamps under the fabric with the plush side down on the wood stamp and sprayed it with starch and used a iron for about a minute being careful to watch for scorching. Do not move the iron back and forth or you may move the material and not get a clear design.

Then I waxed here and there with a brush(Batiki) and then dyed the fabric in Navy blue. Again let it set covered in plastic for 24 hours. The under colors show through in some places. These are the wood blocks that I used to emboss the velvet.

I have been working to complete this for a while. This is two yards of rayon/silk velvet stretched on a frame. I used several bright procion dye colors and let it set for 24 hours covered in plastic.
